End of Exercise Statement by Nick Raynsford, Minister for Civil Resilience
Commenting at the end of the counter terrorism exercise, held today at Bank
underground station in London, Nick Raynsford, Minister for Civil
Resilience said:
"This exercise was designed to test the co-ordinated responses of the
emergency services to a chemical release on a train in the London
Underground, which involved rescue, decontamination and hospital treatment.
It also tested the use of new equipment and procedures for the services.
"Our early view at the end of the exercise, is that the elements that
we have planned to test, have worked well. There will of course be lessons
to learn for all those involved.
"Once the emergency services and exercise planners have looked in
detail at their responses to the incident and how it went, we would hope
where appropriate to publish the major findings.
"There will always be room for improvement following an exercise of
this kind and we will certainly make full use of the lessons learned to
enhance London resilience."
"But I hope the public will be reassured that today's exercise,
part of an extensive programme, demonstrates our commitment to ensuring
that London is as prepared as possible to cope with all
eventualities."
