Mutual Aid - A Short guide for local authorities
01 August 2008
Even before the serious flooding of last summer, it was widely acknowledged that mutual aid between local authorities in the emergency response was a resilience tool in need of greater enhancement. The lessons learned report of Sir Michael Pitt urged that developmental work to be taken forward without delay.
This draft short guide produced by a joint Cabinet Office- LGA-Solace working group has been designed to further that end. It seeks to state the case for the benefits of mutual aid and to encourage action by offering advice on a range of practical considerations and through good practice examples. However we are keen to ensure that the guide meets the requirements of the local authority sector, and for that reason we are issuing it in draft form for consultation. You have until 25 September to send us your thoughts and suggestions on how the guide may be improved before it is published in its final form in November.
Responses should be sent to ccact@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk or by post to the CCA and Local Response Capability Team, CCS, 22 Whitehall, London SW1A 2WH.
