Questionnaire: Core Competences for Professional Civil Protection
Practitioners.
The Emergency Planning Society is the foremost body promoting the
profession in the UK. They are an organisation made up of emergency
planning/civil protection professionals from many different types of
organisations, both public bodies and private companies. Their principal
aim is to enhance the profession. To this end they are working with the
Cabinet Office (Civil Contingencies Secretariat and Emergency Planning
College) on a project to develop a set of core competences for professional
emergency planning practitioners.
This is the first step down the road of achieving chartered institute
status for the EPS. There are also a number of further tangible benefits
that this work will give to the profession, these include:
-
Providing a common language across all parts of the profession and
describing effectiveness in civil protection
-
Achieving a higher level of consistency and objectivity when recruiting
to the profession
-
Providing individuals with the opportunity to identify and plan their
competency developments to aid their personal and career growth.
The project is now at the stage where the Project Board wish to engage with
practitioners in the field. To this extent a questionnaire has been
developed which we hope will be completed by as many practitioners as
possible. The questionnaire seeks to ascertain the views of practitioners
on the tasks, skills, attitudes and knowledge that they think are
important.
Completed must be returned by 30th April 2007 at the latest to the address
on the questionnaire
